Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were formerly of Virginia Beach, VA.
Born on March 18, 1914 in Parksley, he was the son of the late John Durbin Johnson and Laura Matthews Johnson. Along with his wife, he owned and operated the former Johnson Funeral Home in Parksley for many years, serving many Eastern Shore families in their time of need. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his children, Margaret Ann Toth and husband Ronnie of Pocomoke, MD, Henrietta Hines and husband George of Easley, SC, H.M. Johnson and Terri Sullivan of Norfolk, VA, and Vesta Nicolls and husband Parks of Onley, VA; nine grandchildren, Durbin Roache, Lee Toth, Martin Toth, Diane Griffeth, Michael Hines, Irma Cooper, H.M. Shreaves, Laura Simmons and Jack Johnson; and several great-grandchildren. Other than his loving wife and parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, a daughter, Martha Johnson Roache, and another son, John D. Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Bob Boyce officiating. Interment will follow in the Parksley Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.1'

Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. J.H. Light, were held Wednesday, January 26, at 2:00 o'clock, p.m., from Johnson's Funeral Home, Parksley. Interment was in the John W. Taylor Cemetery.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lettie M. Matthews, of Temperanceville; a son, J. Milton Matthews, of Temperanceville; one sister, Mrs. John D. Johnson, of Parksley; one brother, Elmer C. Matthews, Temperanceville; two grandchildren, Harriet R. Matthews and James M Matthews III, two step-daughters, Mrs. Milton D. Marshall and Mrs. Clinton W. Richardson, both of Temperanceville, and three step-sons, elmer Cutler, Newport News, Milton Cutler of Tasley, and Thomas Cutler of Temperanceville.6'
